Preparing for your appointment

What You Need to Have Ready When Making a Booking

To help us process your MRI booking quickly and safely, please have the following ready:

  • Your referral letter from your doctor, specifying the examination required
  • Your ID or passport number, and medical aid details (scheme, plan and membership number, if applicable)
  • Your contact details, including a number where you can be reached to confirm your appointment
  • MRI safety screening information, including any implants, metal devices, pacemakers, previous metal-related surgery, kidney problems, or known allergies (especially to contrast dye)
  • Any history of discomfort in enclosed spaces, so our team can allocate the most suitable unit and offer appropriate support

What you need to know

Medical Aid & Payment Authorisations

Some medical aid plans require pre-authorisation before an MRI can be performed. Here’s how we support that process:

  • Our team submits the pre-authorisation application to the patient’s medical aid on their behalf.
  • We confirm the outcome before the appointment is finalised, wherever possible.
  • Please note: pre-authorisation confirms that a scan has been approved for the funding process — it is not a guarantee of payment. The radiology account remains the patient’s responsibility to settle.
  • Patients are encouraged to review their medical aid plan details ahead of their appointment, as co-payments may apply if benefits are limited or depleted.
  • We are also able to provide our patient’s with a quote/estimate, upon request, prior to the examination, to get a better understanding of the cost involved.
