MRI
MR Enterography (MRE)
MR Enterography is performed with a contrast material to produce detailed images of the small intestine.
It may help your doctor diagnose inflammation, bleeding, obstructions and other problems.
It is non-invasive and does not use ionizing radiation.
Before the exam, oral and intravenous contrast material will be administered to highlight the small intestine. A drug may also be administered to decrease movement of the bowel which can interfere with the images.
Special preparations for MRE:
A clean bowel is extremely important for your planned examination.
You will be instructed to follow either a low faecal diet or be provided with a laxative (PicoPrep) which needs to be taken one day before the exam.
Our team might also ask you to arrive 1 hour before the appointment to drink the bowel prep.
When making your booking you will be provided with a Colon Preparation for Radiological examination document which outlines the specific instructions to be followed.
