Dr. Jacques Bence completed his MBChB at Stellenbosch University before beginning his internship at Victoria Mxenge Hospital (formerly King Edward VIII Hospital) in 2013. He went on to serve his community service year at Tonga Hospital in Mpumalanga’s Nkomazi district, where he later chose to remain for an additional 18 months as a medical officer. During this time, he dedicated himself to rural healthcare while enjoying the Lowveld’s natural beauty and wildlife.
In 2017, Dr. Bence transitioned to the field of radiology, joining the Radiology Department at Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital (formerly Kimberley Hospital Complex) as a medical officer. He spent two and a half years gaining valuable experience before commencing his registrarship at Tygerberg Hospital in 2020, which he successfully completed in 2025.
Dr. Bence has a particular professional interest in musculoskeletal radiology as well as non-accidental injuries in paediatrics, where his work contributes to accurate diagnoses and improved patient outcomes.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Bence is a keen sports enthusiast and outdoorsman. He enjoys playing club cricket, watching sport, hiking, and cooking meals for family and friends. He also values time with his wife, their young son, and their lively household that includes a dog, a horse, and a cat.
