Dr. Michelle Da Silva obtained both her BSc and MBBCh degrees at the University of the Witwatersrand before completing her internship at Tygerberg Hospital in 2005. She went on to serve her community service year at Potchefstroom Hospital, followed by several years as a medical officer at Groote Schuur Hospital, where she gained valuable experience in trauma, haematology, and cardiology. In 2009, she returned to Tygerberg Hospital as Principal Medical Officer in Cardiology before commencing her registrar training in Radiology, which she completed in 2015.
Pursuing her passion for interventional radiology, Dr. Da Silva was awarded a prestigious fellowship through the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (CIRSE) in 2016. She became the first woman in South Africa and one of only three South Africans at the time to achieve the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) qualification.
From 2015 to 2025, Dr. Da Silva served as the Head of Interventional Radiology at Tygerberg Hospital and Stellenbosch University, where she played an instrumental role in developing specialised response teams, including the Pulmonary Vascular Haemoptysis team and the Pulmonary Embolus Response Team. Her leadership in the Vascular and Interventional Theatre initiative was recognised by the Western Province Health Department with a Certificate of Recognition for exceptional team performance in 2019.
In addition to her clinical and academic contributions, Dr. Da Silva is an active member of the SAintS committee and serves as a faculty member, contributing to the advancement of interventional radiology in South Africa.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Da Silva treasures her role as a mother to her energetic son and enjoys expressing her creativity through dance.
