About:
Dr. Sucari Vlok grew up in Stellenbosch where her passions for sport and music defined her. Provincial colours in swimming, athletics and biathlon took her to competitions around the country while the world of music kept on inspiring, becoming one of her greatest passions.
She studied medicine at the University of Stellenbosch, where she completed her MBChB degree in 2005. Her medical career has been a diverse mix of experiences, starting with an internship at Tygerberg Hospital, followed by a year of community service at Hermanus Provincial Hospital. She then furthered her musical studies in piano for 2 years while working as a general practitioner in Stellenbosch.
She spent time in Internal Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, lived in Vietnam where her husband worked, and eventually followed the signs to Grey’s Hospital, Pietermaritzburg, where her Radiology journey took off. In 2012 she did a Radiology elective in Würzburg, Germany, working predominantly in ultrasound. She specialized in Radiology, adding FC Rad (Diag) SA in 2018 and MMed Radiology in 2019 to her list of qualifications.
In 2019 Dr Vlok started her career as a Consultant Radiologist at Tygerberg Hospital, being assigned Musculoskeletal Imaging as her field of interest. In 2019 the Radiology Department of Tygerberg Hospital was chosen as the inaugural host of the Global learning Centres of the RSNA, of which she was the Musculoskeletal lead. Her developing passion for musculoskeletal imaging, interwoven with her passion for sport when younger, took her all the way to Vancouver, Canada, for a special three-month fellowship with the Global Learning Centres of the RSNA in 2022.
But, Dr. Vlok isn't just about bones and joints; she's also interested in breast, neuro, and body imaging, and keen to explore how Artificial Intelligence can make a difference in radiology, having been part of two international AI studies during her time as a consultant at Tygerberg Hospital.
Dr. Vlok doesn’t just keep her expertise to herself; she loves teaching, implemented a Musculoskeletal Radiology rotation for registrars at Tygerberg Hospital, contributed to the Global Learning Centres and is currently the Vice Chair of the Regional Committee for Middle East/Africa of the RSNA.
In 2024, Dr Vlok joined the Morton & Partners team.
When she's not immersed in her work, she loves spending quality time with her family. A true lover of the world, she enjoys traveling, music, the arts, reading, and learning about different cultures and languages.
