Dr Parak completed his undergraduate medical training at Stellenbosch University, achieving 5 subject distinctions and 2 class medals. He commenced internship at New Somerset Hospital and worked in both Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain for his community service. During this time, he gained broad exposure to general and emergency medicine.
He co-founded a health tech company in 2014 and created an online marketplace for short term health placement.
In 2015, he undertook a Masters in Philosophy Specializing in Inclusive Innovation at UCT’s Graduate School of Business to gain an insight into systems thinking and human-centred design. He completed a dissertation on the phenomenology of health-record keeping for which he received the Class Award for Innovation Impact.
After spending a year at Groote Schuur Hospital's Neonatal ICU, he travelled to Pietermaritzburg to work as a medical officer in radiology at Greys Hospital.
In 2017, Yusuf received the Rhone Poulenc Rorer Part 1 FC Radiology gold medal and commenced specialist registrar training at Tygerberg Hospital.
Yusuf became a fellow of the College of Radiologists in 2021 and completed a Masters of Medicine in 2022. He was awarded the Maurice Weinbren research award for 2023 by the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
Yusuf has recently returned from a comprehensive 18 month Interventional Radiology fellowship where he underwent intensive training in general, vascular and oncological interventions at Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia Hospital.
He advocates a patient-centred care approach and is a strong proponent of minimally invasive image-guided procedures for optimised clinical outcomes.
